What is meal prepping? Meal prepping means preparing a meal for an extended period of time, (up to 3–7 days) that are grab-and-go meals.

The benefits of meal prepping. Meal prepping can cut your cooking time in half. Its best to meal prep if you have a busy schedule, or if you’re changing your diet.

Why should you meal prep?

Meal prepping is highly efficient. It reduces the urge to eat food that isn’t part of your meal plan. It also saves you money, when you’re eating the same meal for 3–7 days. However, if you’re not a fan of eating leftovers, meal prepping may not be for you. Meal prepping allows you to budget your money and have control over what you’re consuming.

If you want more control of how much you’re eating, you may want to meal prep. Preparing your meals ahead of time allows you to incorporate portion control. Your meals are prepped in equal amounts, which makes your calorie intake identical. This can be important for someone who may want to lose weight or just be more attentive to how many calories they’re eating.

How you can meal prep effectively.

  1. It starts with the containers you’re using. Glass is more sustainable than plastic containers. Eating out of glass containers is better for the food. The more your food is heated in plastic, the more chemicals can leech into the food.

2. It’s best if your containers are identical in size and have compartments.

3. The best day for meal prep is on Sunday. You’ll have meals ready to eat for the following week ahead.

4. Cook in big portions so you’ll be able to meal prep for the entire week.

5. If you’re meal-prepping soup, it’ll last longer if you freeze it.

Follow this guide and you should be successful in your meal prepping journey!
